Current Status - November 2008

On December 2007, Dr. Milton Mendoza and Evan Milton coordinated a hospital research trip to Michigan, where Dr. Milton and the project architect, Harold Avendaño, were able to get a better understanding of a modern hospital layout and requirements. They toured three Hospitals: Marquette General, Helen Newberry Joy, and Bell Hospital. The hospital directors were kind enough to donate floor plans of their hospitals, which served as precedent studies for the Yojoa Int’l Medical Center. Dr. Mendoza and Mr. Avendaño were also able to meet with the vise president Don Klimmek of Integrated Designs, Inc. who was gracious enough to donate hospital design resource books, which are vital to the initial design phase.

Ligia Romero, a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras (Sept06-Nov.08), who has a Bach of Architecture degree, used these books and floor plans to create the hospital program outline. This outline provides the organization of space and adequate square footage for each hospital component. Ms. Romero will complete the program analysis in Dec. of ‘08, and will request Integrated Designs, Inc. to review her contribution. Once this is complete, Harold Avendaño will assume responsibility for the next design stages.
